A peanut harvest event was held in Silopi district of Şırnak, which is among the top three cities in peanut production in Turkey. Şırnak Governor Osman Bilgin, Silopi District Governor Cihat Koç, Rector of our University Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Applause, directors of institutions , department heads, NGO representatives and many citizens attended the event. The program, which was held in the peanut field in Buğdaylı Village, started with the prayer of the Provincial Mufti Ahmet Dilek. Speaking at the harvest festival, Şırnak Governor Osman Bilgin stated that the construction of the Cizre Dam will begin as soon as possible. Our Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış also stated that peanut production is very important for our city and folowed as; "Our province has an economy based on agriculture and trade.Agricultural products widely grown throughout the province are wheat, lentils, barley, grapes, cotton and peanuts.14% of peanut production in Turkey is made in Şırnak province. After Osmaniye, the province with the highest production is Şırnak. Therefore, Silopi is a strong candidate for “Branding and Geographical Indication” in the field of peanuts.Our university will be the pioneer of our province by providing this unity in the countryside and in all other sectors, thanks to its qualified teaching staff and well-equipped infrastructure." Later in the event, Governor Osman Bilgin got on the tractor and harvested. The event ended with a collective photo of the harvest festival after a plaque was presented to the farmers who are in the first place in peanut production and the owner of the field where the harvest was made.
