Born in Şırnak in 1972, completed his undergraduate and graduate education in 1995 at the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Uludağ University. During the years 1996 - 1997, Professor Mehmet Emin Erkan worked as a veterinary physician in Şırnak Special Provincial Directorate of Administration. During the years 1997-1998, He performed his military service at Turkish Air Force Iskenderun Air Radar Position Command in Iskenderun, Hatay as a third- lieutenant veterinary physician.
He worked as a research assistant at the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Dicle University during the years 1998-1999. Then he worked as a research assistant at Istanbul University Faculty of Veterinary Science between the years 2000-2004. Professor Erkan received his Ph.D in 2004 at Istanbul University, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Department of Food Hygiene and Technology. After working at Dicle University Faculty of Veterinary Science as a Dr. Research Assistant during the year 2004-2007, prof. Erkan, served as an Assistant Professor at Dicle University Faculty of Veterinary Science between 2007 and 2009.
In 2009, he became an associate professor and he became a professor in 2015.
Between 2010 and 2012, he was a member of the Faculty Board of Directors at the same department.
Between February 2012-2013, he worked as the Founding Manager at Silopi Vocational School. Between 2013 and July 28, 2017, he worked as the Head of the Department of Food Hygiene and Technology at the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Dicle University.
On July 28th 2017, he was assigned as Deputy Rector of Şırnak University by the Council of Higher Education. He was assigned by the President with the resolution numbered 2018/16 on 13 June 2018 among the candidates proposed by the Council of Higher Education.
Professor Erkan has articles published in national and international refereed journals, and conference papers presented in national and international scientific meetings and published in the proceedings on “Food, Hygiene, Food Safety and Food Hygiene Control, Healthy Nutrition”.
Professor Erkan is fluent in English. He is married and has two children.
